PTT Picks: Sofitel Munich Bayerpost
The Sofitel Bayerpost is quite superb. Housed in an old post office, the hotel is a short walk to Munich's center. And, for travelers arriving by train, it's right next door to the main train station (not that you can hear it). The rooms are cozy with ample space. The bathrooms are nice with an open feel (that you can remove with automatic blinds). Even better is the two-story suite with a living space downstairs and bedroom upstairs. But the one aspect I find most exciting is the breakfast buffet that's included with each room. It features a variety of breads, pastries, omelet bar, cereals, fruits and beverages. It's where I discovered Frankfurter Cake.
The price is reasonable to high during off season (meaning not Oktoberfest). During the annual drinking festival, the nightly rate rockets to almost 700 euros. In that case, look for a hotel a bit off from center - possibly the Sheraton at the Olympic Village.
